Activities
Participate in fishing in surrounding lakes, wildlife and bird watching and hiking year round. Besides on our ranchland, there is plenty of recreation within Wells Gray Park. This National Park entrance is 40K away and is filled with hiking, kayaking and whitewater rafting. The amazing waterfalls in the park are world renown. If you don’t want to drive far the ranch has plenty to offer. There are activities from river walks to exploring our private Aveley Waterfalls.
Lambing
Only in April
With 700 ewes lambing, the month of April is spectacular. A guided tour, watching a ewe give birth, a hayride, bottling hungry lambs all out in the fresh air will leave you in awe.
Hiking
Over 6 trails short and long are well traveled, and marked on our place. Hikes by the river or up over Little Mountain unfold nature at its best. Three creeks flowing through wooded areas and pastureland bring tranquility to the soul. Hiking to our beautiful Aveley Waterfall is a must.
Kayaking
The North Thompson River is just steps away to drop your kayak into the river and just paddle. We will be happy to arrange a pickup downstream for you. Many other rivers and lakes to explore close-by.
Birdwatching
Whether on a hike by the river or up in the forest land there are over 100 different kinds of birds on our ranch land– from hummingbirds to eagles.
We have over 1000 acres to explore. Bring your binoculars or borrow ours. Bird books are available in the cabin for your enjoyment and research.
Swimming
Just 40K away in Clearwater, Dutch Lake offers a free cooling off spot right in the middle of town. Spend a whole afternoon or just a quick swim. Restaurants are nearby to appease your appetite after an afternoon or evening dip.
Horseback Riding
Down the road at our neighbors’ ranch, trail rides come in different packages for the beginner and the experienced. Ed and Sarah Shook are skilled and organized. They are open every day from Spring until late Fall.
Mountain Biking
Only May 1-November 15
Bring your own bike and we have the trails. Whether you are hardcore or moderate there are backroads and mountain trails for you.
Hunting
Only in Fall
Fall hunting can be very successful in October near Aveley Ranch. Reserve the cabin for 2 nights or the entire week! Bring your buddies or family. Those who don’t hunt can cozy down and read around the fire or take a beautiful autumn walk.
Sledding
Only November 15-March 15
Bring your sled and take off from the cabin. We live at the base of an alpine mountain. Within 45 minutes you can experience the high country and enjoy limitless powder.
